Program note: This piece is inspired by a poem bearing the same title by Mary Oliver, whose work I have long adored. The intimacy and uncertainty of being in the woods alone after dark is an experience I remember vividly from childhood. It is a treasure to be removed from human constructs, to be but one of many beings, to linger among them and find peace.
