Program note: Sin Sin Sin was commissioned for a concert at the American University Museum to accompany an exhibition of William Woodward’s The Seven Deadly Sins. These movements were inspired by three corresponding oil paintings, Wrath (2000), Pride (2000), and Gluttony (2012), featuring humans young and old, monkeys, apes, and other animals engaging in debauchery together in circus/carnival world. A pun on Sing Sing Sing, it celebrates the humorous side of damnation, drawing upon specific images and ideas within the paintings.
