PROGRAM NOTE
Among various Eastern, Aztec, and other folklore, there is a story about a rabbit who sacrificed their life for the benefit of another, as it was the only thing they felt they had to give. In commemoration of this selflessness, the rabbit’s shadow, or sometimes the smoke from the rabbit’s pyre, rose up and was imprinted on the moon for all to see.
