Program note: Moonflower is a nocturne of four miniatures inspired by a vine that produces large, white, night-blooming flowers with a remarkable fragrance. Mine bloomed only once, but I was out of town and missed the moment. Eventually the plant died, or so I thought, until new shoots sprouted again from the woody stalk. Witnessing the process reminded me that we must keep nurturing potential despite failure and keep searching for the path that will allow us to flourish.
