Program note:Lullabies for the End of the World was commissioned by Beyond the Bounds and written for cellists Megan Koch and Naomi Steckman. Four movements illuminate collections of photographs by Julia Cumes documenting climate disasters from around the globe from Cape Cod to Cape Town—wildfires, habitat degradation, shoreline erosion, and drought—and reflect upon the mounting evidence of our perpetual self-destruction as we fail to take meaningful action to mitigate the effects of climate change.
